For the upcoming Rotary year, our goal is to continue to positively impact humanity in the areas of health and hunger through our long-standing club projects. For our President’s project however, the new board will rise to the challenge of aiding in increasing literacy in Jamaica. According the United Nations, It is accepted that the ability to read, write and comprehend is the backbone of a country’s productivity and development, which then extends to the assistance of achieving world understanding and peace.
We expect to make an impact in stamping out illiteracy through the creation and rehabilitation of libraries and computer labs in rural and urban primary and basic schools such as:
· Springfield Primary
· Tower Hill Basic
· Lethe All-Age
· Catherine Hall Primary
among others.
However, a vision of this magnitude requires our partnership with local & international Rotary Clubs, as well as, other local organizations.
We are very excited that these projects will have a positive impact in the improvement of literacy of both children and adults.
Therefore we would like to enlist your support in collecting new & used books for these libraries – you may contact our club for more details.
Other projects for year include:
· Changing regular water taps to eco-friendly press taps in Primary Schools
· Collaborating with roc-wheel to distribute wheel-chairs in November
· Working closely with DGN Paul to re-implement Youth Exchange Program back into Jamaica
Last year, we were able to “reach within to embrace humanity” and ensure the longevity of Rotary and its work worldwide, with the support of our fellow Rotarians and members of the community. This year we will strive for ‘peace through service’.
As we progress through this upcoming year, we look forward to giving ‘service above self’, and even more importantly, to work towards the flourishing of Rotary’s vision of helping humanity.
